Stream the New Ratatat Album Now

Those two NY dudes with the guitars and the drum-machines and the overflowing sample bank, Ratatat has a brand-new album coming out soon. It’s the duo’s fourth album, so they felt calling it LP4 was good enough.

Not too long ago, Evan Mast and Mike Stroud hooked the world up with the record’s first single, “Party With Children,” and now we’ve all got a chance to stream the as-yet-unreleased new album in its entirety. Head over here to listen to LP4, thanks to NPR, and you can pre-order your copy before its released June 8 via XL Recordings, here.

Listen to the New School of Seven Bells Single

We’ll be the first to admit that “dream-pop” is sure to become the most overused genre title this year (maybe next to “chillwave,” now that we think of it), and the new album coming from NY’s shoegazey trio School of Seven Bells is sure to help make that educated guess an assured reality. But who’s to say that’s a bad thing? Dreams and pop music are some of the most enjoyable things out there.

After announcing its forthcoming second album for Ghostly International and Vagrant Records, Disconnect From Desire, School of Seven Bells premiered its first single today on Pitchfork. “Windstorm” is a beautiful song with an ethereal vocal performance from Alejandra Deheza, and lush guitar and synth work filling in the track’s soft corners. The single gets an official release June 1, along with b-side “Crescent Gold” and a remix of “Windstorm” by A Place to Bury Strangers. Stream the track and check out upcoming tour dates here.

Watch: Grand Lake - “Louise (I Live in A Fantasy)”

Bay Area indie upstart Grand Lake has just unleashed the first single from its forthcoming debut album, Blood Sea Dream. “Louise (I Live in A Fantasy)” sounds simultaneously like the deconstruction and re-imagining of modern indie rock. It’s a lofty statement, to be sure, but is evidenced well in the band’s electronics à la Animal Collective, herky-jerky rhythms, and strangely catchy, fractured guitar melody which all coalesce into something a bit more than just the sum of its parts.

The video for “Louise (I Live in A Fantasy)” is a simple affair: black & white footage of the three-piece band playing in a cluttered warehouse is spliced in with a male and female dancer doing their thing. It’s not the new Spike Jonze video by any means, but it compliments well Grand Lake’s fresh take on tried and true ideas.

Hear A New Song From Robin Pecknold

Say what you will about Pitchfork Media, but the mega-website is always reliable for sharing some of the more noteworthy bits of breaking news. Today on the website, a video was shared of Fleet Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold playing a brand spanking new song during his solo opening set for Joanna Newsom in Cincinnati. Though it sounds fitting for something you’d hear on the upcoming new Fleet Foxes album—which should be released later this year—there are no confirmations as to the song’s final resting place. But really, it’s just nice to hear something new from the inimitable voice of this singer/songwriter.
